Always a Cuban connection: Michelle Obama's Inauguration Dress
Isabel Toledo by Ruben Toledo
Cuban-born Isabel Toledo designed the beautiful gold dress Michelle Obama wore today. This past Sunday, she wore dress by Cuban-American designer fabuloso Narcisco Rodriguez dress to the “We Are One” concert.
From Newsday:
“Obama’s choice of a sparkly gold-yellow brocade ribbon-closed coat and dress ensemble with a bejeweled collar is significant on at least two counts. First, the color. Since the Elizabethan Era, shades of yellow have symbolized renewal and hope, a platform on which Obama based his campaign. Also, newly sworn in President Barack Obama has been vocal about his desire to improve relations with Cuba, and some wonder if the First Lady’s choice of Toledo, who is Cuban-born, and Narciso Rodriguez, also of Cuban descent, for Sunday’s “We Are One,” concert –– has deeper meaning.”
To the new administration: Since you “Si Se Puede’d” yourself into office can you please “Si Se Puede” for change in Cuba?
Gracias.
